What Body Shape Am I?

Prom is supposed to be the best night of the year; you’ve finished school and you want to celebrate in style with all your friends. If you’re the girl who looks forward to prom all year long, one thing is for sure, You need an amazing dress.

How do you possibly find the right one with so many options out there?

That’s where we come in.  No matter your body type, shape, or size there is an amazing dress out there for you. (But you probably knew that, didn’t you?) It’s all about understanding what works on your body and what doesn’t.  You want a dress that will highlight all the features you love and hide all the ones you don’t. And we’ve got the latest tips on how to make that happen.

The key to finding the right dress is to understand what works and what doesn’t for your body shape.

Let me guess — you’re sick of people calling you hourglass, apple or pear-shaped when you have no idea what that even means. I totally feel the same way. First of all, comparing me to a fruit? Really?

In order to find out — once and for all — what your body shape really is, and to settle the frustration of tying to figure out your body type have a look below:

Hourglass Body Type

The hourglass body has shoulders and hips that are about the same size and has a defined waist.

If you are this body type you will want a look that shows off your smaller waist and broadens the shoulders to draw attention up to the face. You will want to highlight those amazing curves, not hide them.

To do so, fishtail style gown gowns that hug your all over curves and then flare out at the bottom will look absolutely stunning on you whilst highlighting all your amazing features

Pear Body Type

The pear body type is when your hips are larger than your bust and your waist is well-defined.

With a pear body type your waist is your best asset so be sure to flaunt it!!

When dressing a pear body shape the goal is to add volume to your upper body, emphasise your small waist and de-emphasise your lower body to create a body balance.

Full skirts that flare out at the bottom, v-necklines and strapless are the way to go.

Apple Body Type

The apple body type is when you carry your weight through your middle.  As an apple body type you typically have slim legs and an undefined waist.

When trying to find a gown for your beautiful apple shaped body, go for an empire waist. Solid bold colour dresses that have an empire waist look great on girls who have more of an apple shaped body. They emphasize the bust and flare out below creating a style that is sure to look great on you! A-lines and belted styles also look incredible. Or, If you love your legs be sure to show them off!!

Rectangular Body Type

The rectangular body type means that your silhouette is fairly straight up and down with the hips and shoulders pretty much being the same in width.

Basically the rectangular body types don’t have much of a waist, so it is important to find a dress that creates the illusion of a waist that doesn’t emphasize the lack of one.  Prom dresses that have a lot of detail on the top are a good choice. Another option are dresses that cinch at the waist or ones with a different colour on the top than the bottom. All of these styles will help make you look great!

Petite Body Type

For girls with petite body types it’s important to show off your tiny shape, not hide it! Your small frame will get lost in long, puffy, ball-gown like dresses. They will overpower your body and make you feel like you’re drowning in the dress. Instead opt for a short hemline style. Short prom dresses are the best at showing off your amazing shape, highlighting all of your fabulous features. And if short isn’t your thing, go for a knee length dress which is also a great cut for petite girls. Bottom line: keep it short, keep it sweet and get ready to have a great night!

The perfect prom dress is out there waiting for you.  You now have great tips that will help you match your body type to the right dress and make you look red-carpet ready.  So go out there and find that dress….
